Scott's — A Mountain Retreat of Cottages & Studios
The Independent, London: "Something very special: a peaceful retreat from the modern world with sufficient luxury to enhance, but not eclipse, the amazing natural beauty of the setting. Comfortable? On a deliciously soft Vi-Spring mattress and goosedown pillows, under broderie anglaise sheets by Ralph Lauren? Oh, yes."
Mallorca Reviews: "Probably the prettiest views from any hotel on the island, and every house and studio has its own private terrace looking at them."
Sandler's Guide: "The Scott's have done it again — their new place has all the comfort and relaxed good taste that characterised their original townhouse hotel, but this time in a mountain setting with a lovely outdoor pool, well coiffed gardens, and fabulous views down to the sea."
The Islander: "God is in the details,” as various architects are alleged to have said. Scott's proves the saying. Their new little artists’ colony complex doesn't just have telephones, they give you good Nokia mobile phones to carry around whilst on the island, pre-programmed with their phone numbers in the event of an emergency. Want a quiet evening in by the fireplace or woodburning stove? Every accommodation has a DVD player and there's a library of classic films ranging from all the James Bonds to old Hitchcocks, Ealing comedies, and even TV greats like 'Edge of Darkness', which lingers in the mind even twenty years on."
Uptown Magazine: “Once an artists’ retreat, the new Scott’s has all the original charm and tranquillity of bygone days but with plenty of sensitively added modern comforts. This is an ideal wind-down retreat, whether you laze on your own personal sun terrace, swim in the pool with a swim-jet for exercise, or take advantage of one of the many walks in the area – the views are simply stunning. Scott’s offers total relaxation and you get the feeling you’re house-sitting for a very lucky friend.”
The Daily Mail: Five Mallorcan Gems. “Scott’s is at the southernmost end of the Tramuntana mountains and is one of the island’s must stunning hideaways, with breathtaking views across the village rooftops to the sea beyond. One of Mallorca’s hidden gems.”

This will be brief because I´m actually writing this on my laptop chilled out on my terrace at Scott's, looking at the sun setting over the mountain range on my right that runs down to the sea and I´m not feeling like ever moving again. I´m sure there are more perfect places in the world, but I just may not yet have found them. In a little while, once it´s darker, I plan to plant myself in front of a DVD and eat some chicken curry the kitchen sent up to us. All right, we´re only on our second day here, and it´s my first time (unlike the other Scott´s, which I know well) and it may be that by the time we leave there will be something I don´t like, but right now I´m just blissed out and even the memory of getting up here on that windy mountain road doesn´t bother me. So far, so good — I may write more another time, but as I told you, this place has relaxed me into jelly. Mmmmm!

First of all, I NEVER write about places I stay, good or bad. I just don't do it. This time — maybe it was just that it was so different and special — I thought I would tell a few more people. So what can I recommend? Well, the view is paralyzing, and sometimes when I was reading on our terrace I'd just stop for ten minutes and watch a tiny sailboat on the horizon, or one of the three hawks that hunt over the Roman (I think) terraces that step down the hillside. The bed and pillows are the best I've ever found in a hotel, and Ben and Miguel, who took care of us, made great, late breakfasts, and were unendingly helpful. Apart from that, it's rustic, but just so civilized. I loved the security of their giving us a mobile phone when we went out for a walk. Altogether a perfectly special place. So this is just to pass on a secret tip for a great vacation.

Majorca: "Wonderful place to chill out"

Lovely rooms, spotlessly clean and with wonderfully comfortable beds and top quality cotton sheets. Large breakfasts made to order and brought to your room on a tray. Fantastic views, lovely pool and great service at the touch of a button (one member of staff went all the way to Palma just to get some ice for our Gin and Tonics!). What more could you ask for?

Couldn't have found a more perfect place! We checked this out on Trip Advisor and the website and decided to give it a whirl. Smart decision. We took a few nice walks along the nearby trails — nothing taxing, though there are hard ones, too. Mostly we sat on our private terrace and read and got brown and made snacks in our little kitchen. (NB we loved the late breakfasts, too)
Evenings we watched some old Cary Grant films on the DVD, but also sat on the terrace until late — no mosquitoes — and looked at the stars and listened to the bells on faraway flocks of sheep. Mornings an invisible maid cleaned up and did the fab bed. Like I said, it was as if Posh and Becks had lent us their own holiday house with staff, only with better taste in the decor.
Not bad for less than sixty quid each.

Majorca: Scott's in the mountains: "Splendid isolation near Palma"

Scotts is a cluster of studios and small houses, clinging to the top of a village that climbs and climbs. The rooms all have magnificent views to the mountains and the sea. It is not really a hotel, more like serviced apartments, including super breakfasts and the availability of frozen meals which you can microwave in the privacy of your living room.
It's all run by Miguel, who is charming and effective and on the end of a cell phone, which the hotel provides. If you get lost, just hit the Miguel key.
The village has a small shop and a bar. The nearest restaurants are about 10 minutes drive along steep, narrow, mountain roads.
Rooms are well equipped and the beds are magnificent. Bathrooms are adequate. It's not luxury in the material sense, but it has great style.

Majorca: The new Scott's: "Glorious, breathtaking ..."

Brand new in summer 2004, and we were among the guests in the first few months. They were still finishing the outside terraces, but once they've finished everything this will surely be among the loveliest places in the Mediterranean. The view is stunning, the beds the best I've ever slept on in any hotel, and the staff are warm and endlessly helpful. It doesn't pretend to be a hotel in the ordinary sense since it's been converted from an artists colony of just three houses and seven studios, all with nice terraces sharing that view, and with individual kitchens for self-catering. They served a nice breakfast until noon, though most of the guests were out early for the great walking nearby. My only criticism is that unless you want to self-cater, or walk down to the fairly ordinary restaurant in the village, or heat up one of the hotel's own meals in your microwave, you have to drive a twisty road for at least three miles to the nearest good restaurant. They do serve a good evening meal, but only three nights a week in season. They're just too small to support a restaurant. Apart from that, it's one of the most romantic, relaxing, tranquil and beautiful places I've ever stayed.
What Former Guests Have Said About The "Giveaway"
We're beginning to get feedback from our former guests, and we will post more of these as they come in. For many reasons, people who have actually stayed with us, like the Trip Advisor folk above, are those who are best placed to judge the quality of the accommodations, and therefore the value of what's up to be given away.
Dear George,
What a brilliant idea! But then again you're famous for your imaginative ideas aren't you? Even in our (hopefully only temporary) impoverished state we will be in on your project and have already forwarded details onto a few friends who may be interested in joining.
What bliss to own one of these wonderful escape homes - and already furnished in your inimitable style.
Lets hope it goes ahead - like a steam train!
Best wishes
Hi, Everyone -
Thought you might have some interest in the following email (at the very least it is a fun read as are all of George's emails). We met the Scotts when we were on Mallorca during our honeymoon (we stayed in the townhouse he mentions below) and they are really great people. I have no doubt that this is a legitimate endeavor. They are only collecting the names of folks who may be interested so sign up if you think you might like to participate and possibly own a wonderful place in the Mediterranean. (And please don't forget to put my name on the form when it asks how you heard about this...gives me one more chance to win something. ;-))
Thanks, and good luck!
Hi George
Thank you for the email, I have responded on the web link you sent below, I think that the drawing is a really innovative and thoughtful way to give former guests/friends and family the opportunity to own one of the wonderful Galilea properties.
I for one am interested in what you're doing and will of course forward to my friends and colleagues with a recommendation.
Dear Scotts,
Wonderful idea. We could never in a million years have afforded to buy one of those gems up there, but we're certainly going to be buying some vouchers - one each for us and one as a present for each of the kids. One of them isn't 18 yet - is he still eligible to win? I know he can't buy a ticket, but if I give him one can he legally own it if he wins?
Grace
PS I wrote this before calling you to ask about that question. Thank you for the practical answer and I look forward to holding it in trust for him for another two years.
